Chandanathennalai seems to be making a wonderful mixture of Hameer Kalyani and Saraswati ragas, at least to my untrained ears; very good singing by Madhu Balakrishnan and Sujatha. Is Veerali thanka pattin sree raagam? Or Darbari Kaanada, perhaps? Or Manirangu? Beyond the guesses, it sounds incredibly pleasant! Sundarikalli goes Raja’esque, ala Karagaattakkaaran – superbly rhythmic with Vidhu Pratap in great form! Yesudas’ Illathannillatha is a serene melody indeed, but feels a bit jaded; Chithra’s Himashaila amman-song sound… even more so! Trust Vidyasagar to spring up raga-based and Raja’esque melodies even today… that too, mostly in Malayalam. Vaidooryam is no exception
