Thillalangadi (Music review), Tamil – Yuvan Shankar Raja & Thaman S

Ding ding has an infectious charm, with catchy orchestration and likeable kids’ chorus that mostly accompanies Jeyam Ravi, while Chitra’s portions in Sol pechu are outdated, even as Yuvan and Shreya’s parts are fresh. Pattu pattu tries quite hard – the overtly stylish singing adding to the annoyance – and fails, while Thothu ponen is just an assembly-line kuthu track. Memory loss shares only those words, and also pales, in front of Thaman’s qawali-styled original from Kick. Thaman smartly picks the short, ambient Idhayam karaigirathey and the middling, but pulsatingly-orchestrated Pootta paathdhum from his Telugu repertoire. Disappointing mixed bag, overall!
