Music review: Yogi (Tamil – Yuvan Shankar Raja)

Despite Snehan’s occasionally funny lyrics, Seermevum koovathiley is nothing more than a glorified mélange of folk bits, that together as a song, falls flat. Both versions of Yogi yogi thaan are mighty impressive from the orchestration point of view – powerful and atmospheric! Yaarodu yaaro reaches Yuvan’s Pudupettai high, with an enthralling mix of sarangi, catchy rhythms and a soulful tune. Ditto for its sarangi version that integrates Ustad Sultan Khan’s vocals beautifully with the haunting arrangements. The theme music is highly unconventional, with a strong tune played out amidst an ambient sound. Barring one song, Yogi’s soundtrack is brilliant.
