Music review: Chal Chalein (Hindi – Ilayaraja)

Shehar hai eulogizes Allahabad, with its local lyrics by Piyush Mishra and a simple, catchy tune. The prelude and interludes make up for the ennui in Uff are tu’s tune, while Tum bhi dhoondna is the kind of track that Raja would have sung himself, down South – Hariharan does the honors for this mellow, but bland tune. Jhoom jhoom so ja is a tuneful lori with a strong Southie feel, while the 80s rock-infused title song and the filmy rebellion in Batladein koi consistently embarrass due to their datedness. Ilayaraja reiterates why he has always been defunct in Bollywood.
