Saroja (Tamil, Yuvan Shankar Raja)

Beyond the facade of its catchy rhythm, Aaja meri soniye has a really stale tune. Dosth bada dosth redeems the soundtrack and has all the signs of being the next friendship anthem! Shankar Mahadevan’s powerful vocals and that addictive rhythm prop up the confident Nimirndhu nil, while the psychedelic soundscape from 80s in Cheeky cheeky is really enthralling! Kodana kodi’s punchy sound and middle-eastern infusions work in its favor but Yuvan’s attempt at heavy metal, in My life, is juvenile and incoherent. Barring two songs that display the young composer’s over-confidence and nonchalance, Yuvan does have a winner in Saroja.
