Jassie Gift finally gets a track which doesn’t require him to shout coarsely – this one’s actually a fantastic dulcet tune with a mild catchy rhythm, much like Pesaa madanthaye, which has Madhu Balakrishnan in perfect sync with the carefully meditated rhythm! Karthik, Tippu & Srinivas get mini-songs in En jannalil, Aazha kannaal & Mouname, who’s exotic flavors are quite diverse and contribute big time in terms of repeatability! Kaatrin mozhi is THE pick of this album…what with its fab balance of poetic wordings and that soft rhythm and Balram/ Sujatha’s silvery vocals. Kannaal pesum penne is SPB’s show all the way, with Vidyasgar reserving the best of his orchestration to the veteran’s stunning vocals, that also includes some playful apologizing banter! This soundtrack grows slowly, steadily and is personified with an almost K Balachander-like sensibility in terms of the quality of music & lyrics, something even the veteran director seemed to have missed in his own Poi. Mozhi is perhaps the most satisfying soundtrack to come out this year and that’s a tall statement considering we’re just a month into 2007! Kudos to producer Prakashraj and director Radhamohan for bringing the best out of Vidyasagar! Take a bow, man!
