Sanam Re (Music review), Hindi – Amaal Malik, Mithoon, Jeet Ganguli and Epic Bhangra

Posted by Karthik

Of the two songs by Mithoon, the title song works smoothly given it mixes racy guitars with his trademark melody, sung darn well by Arijit. His other, Tere liye, is mind-numbingly maudlin. Amaal’s Hua hain aaj is an odd throwback to Nadeem-Shravan’s music, while Gazab ka hain is middlingly breezy, propped by Arijit’s vocals. Falak Shabir sings Amaal’s last, Kya tujhe, an ambient pathos number that’s passable. Epic Bhangra-composed Humne pee rakhi is pale Honey Singh imitation. Nikhil-Vinay’s 2001 Tum bin gets a half-hearted recreation, while Shaan’s lively rendition lifts Jeet Ganguli’s playfully retro-styled Chhote chhote. Usual mixed-bag T-series material.

Keywords: Sanam Re, Amaal Malik, Mithoon, Jeet Ganguli, Epic Bhangra

Why oh why are they recreating songs from 2001 now. Has this what the world has come to t-series???

This album wishes it was half as good as Tum Bin.

I only like Gazab Ka Hai Yeh Din (thank god this wasn’t a recreation!!!!!! ) and hua Aja pehli baar (cause it’s definately copied from an older better Nadeem shravan or anu Malik song)

No review yet on Mastizaade Karthik?

Hua hai aaj pehli baar is the only stand out song and Tere Liye also sounds good, Sanam Re is a weak album overall despite of Multiple Composers, seems like TSeries don’t trust any composer to handle the whole album.

Gazab ka hain din oddly reminds me of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car”…

Hugely disappointed from Jeet! He was much better remaking/reusing his own tunes! Really disappointing remake of that tum bin title track! Seems to b 1 of the worst remake of any song ever!

  • Chuttan

As far as i remember jeet hasn’t reused/recycled any of his tunes since 2015 till now! The latest recycled/reused track was as far as i remember(correct me if i m wrong) Sun le zara in Singham returns in 2014!

I think some composers such as jeet, mithoon, amaal malik, ankit tiwari should be given full albums to show their actual artistic potentials because if they are given just a few songs then there is huge pressure to give those songs as commercial hits which defeats artistic purpose,we get nothing new & the same kind of songs are heard again & again! If 1 carefully see the trend then 1 can easily observe that some music composers who are getting complete albums maybe less in number are becoming bigger & bigger composers rapidly such as Amit Trivedi,Vishal-Shekhar,etc while some big music composers mostly get complete albums & are delivering excellent soundtracks such as Pritam,A R Rahman,Shankar-Ehsan-Loy,etc!

Totally agree, especially with Mithoon. Look at soundtracks like The Train or Aggar to see what he’s capable of with a full soundtrack. Even songs like Kinna Sohna from Bhaag Johnny or the title song of this soundtrack show what he can do, but I would love to see him get a full soundtrack.

This multi-composer theory can cost bollywood a lot if it continues like this! I feel that artistry is getting murdered & the innovations blocked!

    • Jagan Kumaravelu

Multi composer theory can work better than a single composer doing an entire album. Certain composers are good at certain genre of songs (e.g. Rahman is good at melodies, Yuvan is good at foot tapping songs, Anirudh is good at pathos music, etc.). You have specialists doing the respective songs. Also it puts pressure on them to deliver a good song because they have limited chances at it.

      • Chuttan

Yes,u r also right but i feel that if a person is given the complete album then more variations cud b seen in a soundtrack of the same music composer i.e v get to c different faces of a music composer! Also the responsibilty of that soundtrack comes on that music composer who wud try his/her best to uplift the soundtrack as much as possible, which wud give us a much better soundtrack!

  • Malay Samant

I completely agree with you Chuttan, just see what a package Himesh Reshammiya has delivered in Sanam Teri Kasam, sole composer and a fantastic return for the film makers. Outstanding job done.

Gazab ka hai din seems to be quite pritam-ish! Tere liye seemed excellent to me & easily the best song in the album! Hua hai aaj seems to be some 90’s like song! Sanam re title track seems to be having something addictive in it,esp in the main line! But jeet ganguly,i request u dada to please be back in form with a bang because your fans like me haven’t got enough good songs of you since a long time now!
