Veteran Kannada composer Hamsalekha makes the right choice by getting Hariharan for his trademark melody marked by sweeping violin phrases, Jhallanta Kaadutaalivalu while Shankar Mahadevan’s Toltede is an ebullient song using well-loved folk rhythms. Bombe maanava is even more folk’ish and showcases the composer’s prowess over deeply resonant music unique to the state. Mutte is plain crazy, even the singers seem to agree, while Preethi seems like the composer’s sad attempt to emulate newer composers in the haphazard tune and use of Bollywood singers. Despite the strongly native sounds in a few tracks, I expected a lot more from Hamsalekha.
