Em Peru Matta‘s racy metal sound is appealing but on a fractured tune. The song’s ‘Mersal Illai‘ line becomes another song, completely different, and equally all-over-the-place. Andrea Jeremiah owns Mayakkuraane‘s jazzy melody, amidst a superb brass section. That brass rules over the gaana’ish Maane Thene too, supported by lively singing. Anjaa Nenjane is a kuthu-jazz (!) with imaginative orchestration. Thaaru Maara and Satti Melatha are true-blue gaanas, sung by Deva and Gana Bala, respectively. The former is a particularly nostalgic delight. The theme is Arrol’s familiar Mysskin’ish sound! But Arrol Corelli definitely shows promise in his first, full-fledged mainstream soundtrack.
