Jayachandran’s melody in Neelambal nilavodu is beautifully ghazal-like—with a lovely smattering of santoor—and makes a sweeping use of Karaharapriya Darbari Kanada raga that gives Shreya Ghoshal incredible scope to excel. Jayachandran has a winner in Rakkadalala too! The Middle Eastern/Arabic music adds to the exotica value, but the melody is vintage Ilayaraja level, particularly the anupallavi that plays out tantalizingly amidst guitar, sung wonderfully by Shreya and Haricharan. Ee vazhiyil‘s somber tune plays out more like background music, while Mother, composed by Eddie Torres and Ashley Garland, rides solely on Ashley’s expressive singing. Jayachandran’s Neelambal and Rakkadalala are the soundtrack’s jewels.
