Sema (Music review), Tamil – G.V. Prakash Kumar

Yugabharathi’s enjoyable colloquial lyrics, Velmurugan’s vocals and GVP’s judiciously-understated rhythm prop Sandalee‘s gorgeous melody. GVP makes brilliant use of a folk riff in Uruttu kannala and adds a beautifully structured anupallavi which includes MM Manasi’s humming amidst Santhosh Hariharan’s raucous posturing! Nenje nenje‘s sedate melody comes alive brilliantly in Siddharth Mahadevan and Shasha Tirupati’s singing even as GVP adorns it with a delightful flute interlude. Between Raja Ganapathy and Adhik Ravichandran, Vechu senjachu‘s catchy folk-kuthu gets a catchy expression, while the theme layers on the thavil and nadaswaram for a spirited closure. After Mupparimanam, GVP showcases his impressive form again!
