ABCD has quirky lyrics; the tune is non-existent and backgrounds pedestrian. Achamillai and Nila nila too are on similar lines – skeletal tune, coarse backgrounds. Kannodu kangal sounds vaguely like Bobby’s Main shayar toh nahin, with a similar accordion-led tune; well sung by Srinivas. KJ Yesudas’ Neeyum bommai recreation seems labored, but Oru oorla shines though, thanks to SP Charan and Chennai Chorale efforts. Vela vetti, with its intriguing and sweeping tune, works, though Naresh Iyer sounds oddly uninterested. Natarajan Sankaran seems to be trying something unique in his debut, but it doesn’t translate as well as he’d probably imagined.
