Rowthiram (Music review), Tamil – Prakash Nikki

Ranina Reddy’s seductive vocals gels with Maalai mangum neram’s sedate tune; it does offer an enchanting combination that impresses almost immediately. Golimaare is no doubt peppered with a funky, massy sound, but strangely the tune completely fails to engage, while Adiye un kangal is passably catchy, beyond its absurd lyrics. The theme song is largely predictable in its use of Bharathiyar’s verses and is interesting only for staying away from Bharathiyar’s ‘Rowthiram Pazhagu’ phrase, while Haricharan’s Senganthal closes the soundtrack quite admirably – lovely, hummable guitar-based singalong’ish ballad. Prakash Nikki’s debut is surely endearing, but only within commercially acceptable parameters.
