Music review: Mukhaputa (Kannada – Hamsalekha)

Veteran composer Hamsalekha treats the Ganesha stotra, Ajam nirvikalpam, with utmost respect and Badriprasad’s vocals add to its devout flavor. Badriprasad’s other tracks too are noteworthy – the lyric-less, free verse in Nisapaa displays his vocal prowess really well, while the title song’s austere folk tune and sound make it noteworthy. Hiranmayi’s Amma amma sob-story is jarringly sloppy, complete with a stock background rhythm reused from Rahman’s Yeh Rishtha from Meenaxi. Minuguthare too strikes a disappointingly discordant note, with silly English phrases, perhaps added for thematic reasons. Hamsalekha’s experience keeps in good stead, at least for three tracks in Mukhaputa!
