There’s a tremendous irony in every new Jagjit Singh ghazal album – on one hand, the tunes are extremely stale and many times, pedestrian. But on the other, that familiarity is precisely what makes the man’s ghazal’s endearing! Inteha is no different. Payyam Sayeedi’s words in Inteha aaj bhi, Faragh Ruhavi’s Khoob nibhegi and the mildly predictable Kuchh khona with Sanjay Masoom’s lyrics make the cut instantaneously. The pick of the album however is Rajinder Rahbar’s Aaina saamne, for the combination of a lovely tune and earnest words. Beyond recent false starts and controversy-inducing utterances, Jagjit bounces back with Inteha.
