Music review: Vaamanan (Tamil – Yuvan Shankar Raja)

The composer ropes in Roopkumar Rathod for the almost ghazal-like Oru devadhai, that, barring a single, repetitive and annoyingly tinny rhythm, is exquisite. Aedho seigiraai is a fairly appealing, but standard melody from Yuvan – the backgrounds are strangely sluggish. Enge povadhu is appropriate for Vijay Yesudas – the melancholic tune is absorbing, while Lucky star, with Blaaze and Suvi is high on groove but banal in its lyrics – the imaginative arrangement is clearly the highlight. The seemingly hip-hop’ish Money money, however, falls completely flat – staid orchestration and frustratingly tuned. After a wonderful Sarvvam, Yuvan returns to his middle-of-the-road sound.
