Music review: Aasma (Hindi – Afsar & Sajid)

The this-too-shall-pass inspirational ditty, Ye pal is very similar to Xulfi’s own, Laree chute, but is adequately addictive in its newer avataar. The title song and Chalte rahein are reminiscent of 90s Indirock that was passed as Indipop and have a slightly amateurish, college band feel to them – but to give credit where its due, the latter sounds pretty good. Man bawra emulates Kalyug’s Jiya dhadak, but thankfully has a unique ring to it with excellent vocals. Debutants Afsar and Sajid look up to past hits for inspiration but seem to be intelligent and evolved enough in their compositions.

One rap in the knuckle for Times Music for missing the singers in the CD. Epic fail, dudes!
