Cute Kameena (Music review), Hindi – Krsna

Barring Payal Dev’s grating way of singing, Twinkle twinkle is a mighty fun track, with the real hero being Puneet Sharma’s lyrics (‘baaki saare launde water vapour lagte hain‘, ‘tere dil mein Tarantino ki Kill Bill rehti hai‘). Single chal riya hai gains immensely from Mohit Chauhan fantastic singing, and Rajshekhar’s lyrics, besides Krsna’s breezy melody. Krsna himself handles the song’s mellow reprise admirably well, articulating it within a different mood. Da di da da is punchy, with a very catchy rhythm, and the tune is heady, sung really well by Krsna himself. The composer pitches a googly with Shaam hote hi, a Pancham-style retro song that checks all the boxes of that genre, barring Rajshekhar’s slightly forced wordplay (‘neele satin mein lipta yeh shehar‘?). Shreya Ghoshal rocks this one effortlessly. But Rajshekhar makes up in the soundtrack’s best, in Shehar mehboob hai ji, reminiscing on Bhopal’s bylanes set amidst a tune that’s strongly reminiscent of Tanu weds Manu’s Piya and sung brilliantly by Javed Ali! Rafa dafa is high on energy with a wonderfully addictive hook and sung with verve by Krsna and Shreya Ghoshal. Krsna’s music continues to be consistently engaging, like his partnership with lyricist Rajshekhar!
