Youngistaan (Music review), Hindi – Jeet Ganguly, Shiraz Uppal, Sneha Khanwalkar & Shree Isshq

Jeet Ganguly, in his sole track, Suno na sangemarmar, deftly uses his Bengali tune, Ki kore toke, from Rangbaaz with a perfect choice in Arijit to croon it. Even the remix is pretty nifty! Of Shiraz Uppal’s two songs, Mere khuda is generic Pakistani pop, but he surprises with a very-Rahman’ish qawali in Daata di diwani, sung well by Rafaqat Ali Khan and himself. Tanki, perhaps because of Jackky Bhagnani’s (and the director’s) absurd lyrics, rubs poorly on even composer Sneha Khanwalkar – one shoddy, seemingly-Japanese technopop. Shree Isshq’s Youngistaan anthem is banal. Jeet and Shiraz make this Youngistaan bearable.
