D-Day (Music review), Hindi – Shankar Ehsaan Loy

Mika leads Duma dum‘s umpteenth remake – largely familiar and tepid version. But Alvida is a complete opposite – awesome, brooding backgrounds and splendid vocals by Nikhil D’Souza, Sukhvinder, Loy and particularly Shruti Haasan! Murshid khele holi is wonderfully harmonious, with a distinctly non-qawal intrusion at places that adds zing to the song! Rekha Bharadwaj sounds her usual, stereotyped self in Ek ghadi, with the trio’s absorbing sounds clearly taking precedence, while, Dhuaan works for its profusion of voices, Oasis-style violin backdrop and impressive choral arrangement. The trio nail the sound as usual, even if the tunes work only intermittently.
