Farida (Music review), Indipop – Abhijeet Sawant

Farida is the pick of the album – it offers a fairly complex tune for Abhijeet to sink into and holds its guitar and keyboard-loaded backdrops really well, thanks to composer Harpreet Singh. The bridge between the antara and title hook is particularly lovely, as is the free-flowing tune! Harpreet’s other song, Aao morey piya too is a wonderful listen! Rhythmed like an Adnan Sami track, Abhijeet excels in his rendition of this dreamy ballad. Nakash Aziz’s Jhalleya starts off in a seemingly standard template, but the title hook makes an impact. Nakash’s second song, Kuch kar maula, is even more ambitious, but while it helps Abhijeet display his range adequately, as a tune, it is staid. Rajiv Bhalla’s Dil fakira is superbly hum-along’ish, with fantastic rock-styled guitar that even fuses beautifully with the dhol. Rajiv’s other song, Firaak main is a punchy pop done well, albeit a bit filmy. Bawari, by Abhijeet’s brother Amit, is pleasant desi-pop that gets almost everything right, and aids Abhijeet enter Palash Sen’s territory with confidence. Much like his last album (Junoon), Abhijeet gets the fact that it’s the tunes that make a pop album. With his four composers, Abhijeet produces yet another winner!
