Paagan (Music review), Tamil – James Vasanthan

In a strange coincidence, two of Paagan’s songs sound like two of Guru’s songs! Alka Ajith’s wonderfully sung Poon thendralai seems like Barso re, while Ippadi oar, again, superbly sung by Nivas and Sharanya, and is reminiscent of Aye hairathe! The latter is a lovely listen nevertheless! Krish’s Thathi thavi seems hastily composed and inconsistently sung, while Ennai mannippaya sounds generally sloppy. Simba samba ramba, on the other hand, is one raucous, foot-tapping track making great use of traditional rhythms with an energetic Latino base. After his last – Eesan, almost 2 years ago! – James’ music continues to be fickle!
