English Vinglish (Music review), Hindi – Amit Trivedi

Badla nazara, beyond the frivolous techno sound, carries enough nuances – like quirky wordplay and the squeaky title hook – to hold one’s attention. And Shilpa Rao can seldom go wrong anyway, while Amit’s own version is a good attempt too. Shilpa also carries Gustakh dil brilliantly, with its immersive slow rock sound with a pensive touch. Amit sings Dhak dhuk himself… a strongly Rahman’ish melody with an instantly endearing dandiya’ish base. Manhattan‘s lyrics and 80s synth pop sound work intermittently, while Navrai majhi plays it straight as a catchy festive Marathi track would. Competent vompetent soundtrack from Amit Trivedi.
