Movie review: Triangle (2009, Christopher Smith)

Christopher Smith’s Triangle, along with Eden Lake, are two films that I totally loved, within the thriller/ horror genre. Triangle shares generous visual cues from Los cronocrímenes, but all those resemblances are external and nothing to do with the actual plot, which has different motives in both films. Triangle’s screenplay is one of the best I’ve noticed and the fact that we watch the film with a quizzed expression, almost throughout the film, is the film’s success. The acting is uniformly functional and even leading lady Melissa George, after a point, starts getting predictable – in the literal and other senses too; you see the film, you’ll know what I’m talking about! The ending is something of a given and most horror/ thriller fans would have guessed it as the most logical way to end the already mind-bending premise – but, it still leaves you with enough questions on many things including the existence of almost all the film’s characters. Perplexing thriller well worth the time!
