The main tune of Idhu kanavo and the ode-to-friendship track, Oru kudayil, are no great shakes but Gangai Amaran adorns it with interludes and backgrounds very reminiscent of Raja’s heydays! Odaikkanum is a painfully stale kuthu song but Vijay Yesudas’ Vaan nilavudhaan is an incredible trip down memory lane – the elder brother’s shadow looming large, thankfully! Pennillame’s techno wrap just doesn’t work and even the chorus track, Padapadavena is ho-hum, barring that Latino flavor, used wisely. Mere flashes of his former form may not help this veteran composer make a successful comeback – we’ve come a long way, Mr. Amaran.
