Music review: Nammal Thammil (Malayalam – Jayachandran)

The filmy rain song, Junile nilamazhayil is a very pleasant listen, despite the predictable, Vidyasagar’ish tune, while after that classically-inclined prelude, Thottu thottu degenerates into a catchy, but mundane pseudo-Punjabi number. Seyona is plain obnoxious and Priyane, beyond the likeable sound, sounds like a tacky Tamil song, made even more tacky. Kabadi kabadi is shockingly Srikanth Deva material passed on as Jayachandran’s composition – right upto the manic rhythms and the Latino interlude. Nammal Thammil is essentially a Tamil soundtrack masquerading with Malayalam lyrics – is that a win for Tamil or a loss for Malayalam? I’d go with the latter!
