Music review: Poova Thalaya (Tamil – Peter John)

After loyally sticking to Pravin Mani, director Sanjay Ram moves on to Peter John in Poova Thalaya. Maipoosum is a reasonably engaging folk melody but with predictable musical phrases while the fangled item number Vatta nilavu, beyond those interesting guitar work, is quite bland. Thee kozhi’s tune is quite out of circulation; straight out of a villain’s den in 1985. The manic pace of Kombudhaan doesn’t add anything to this kuthu number while Ettu dikkum and Sozha mannar are pretentious theme pieces pointlessly extolling the virtues of the brave protagonist. Another film from Sanjay that doesn’t really require a soundtrack.
