Music review: Qismat Apnay Haat Mein (Pakistani Pop, Shehzad Roy)

Beyond the listener-friendly ballads in Ek baar, Aankhien and Janay kahan, the zingy teen rebel stance in Khul ke pyar and the delightfully lilting folk-fusion in the Mai Bhagi tribute, Baro chal, Shehzad arrives in the rousing, meaningful Laga reh and in the guitar-meets-sufi duet with Abida Parveen, Zindagi. Even Quaid-e-azam works – a bold attempt, given the person being referred to, but with a lovely theme. The funny prelude and catchy riffs in Qismat too is pretty neat! Evolving confidently from the catchy yet frivolous Saali, Shehzad Roy’s Qismat is one of the best albums from Pakistan, this year!
