Zubeen’s pop debut is largely bland due to the indifferent music turned out by composers ‘Alaap’! There’s a lackluster feel to every track and Zubeen’s over-exploited vocal range adds to the ennui. The title song is moderately interesting while Udte parindon and Jia lage na make the cut thanks to their simple, filmi tunes. And what are Chitra and Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan doing in Zubeen’s debut album? Ironically, the two lilting tracks by Chitra impress the most! But, when will Indian singers realize that the music producer/ composer is the most important part of the music making business?
