The serene Kahein yeh akhiyaan and Maavan are the clear highlights. Ishq da bukhaar has a manic energy in true sufi style. The same hyper-speed in Dumadam and the hip-hop Tere ishq nachaya jar however. Rafaqat’s version of Khusro’s Chhap tilak is flat considering Kailasa’s superlative, recent interpretation. Ishq da warka’s rock base is interesting. So is Allah jaaney’s occasionally paced tabla rhythms and guitar usage. Some of the tracks have an overpowering pop sound that seems quite unlike our normal expectation from someone with a Ali Khan surname. But this is otherwise a very fine musical experience!
