Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum (Music review), Tamil – G V Prakash Kumar

Aavarangaatukulla has a pleasant tune, but rehashes the ghatam-based sparse folk sound once in vogue, kick-started by Rahman. Pothi vecha and Nariga uranga hold textures similar to Rahman’s Taj Mahal number Kulirudhu kulirudhu, but are wonderful compositions on their own, thanks to their thoroughly appealing tunes! The melancholy in Poraale and Anname sound anesthetic at best, while Kola vaala edungada is rustic religious-folk that is barely functional. Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum is a mixed bag – it does hold 3 listenable tracks but ends up leaving a nagging doubt if Bharathiraja wanted Rahman and opted for the clone, given how Rahman’ish they sound!
