Swarasagaram is a lively enough tune, but feels hurried, while Mele mele‘s raag Vakulabaranam based tune is plain filmy and stale. Chil chil is fantastic, Shaan’s arrangements making a huge difference. Minna minni too, despite the familiar tune, has excellent vocals that make a good listen, while Thalam thalam, is a pulsating, catchy track, if you ignore the college-band’ish sound. The best track is, however, the funky reinterpretation of Devarajan’s 1969 classic, Kalyani Kalavani! The tunes need extra work, but the intent and talent definitely shows, for these Idea Star Singer veterans. This debut album scores on exuberance and passion.
