Music review: Jannat (Indipop – Ankur Tewari)

Ankur Tewari’s acoustic rich debut pop album holds some genuinely interesting tracks! Like Chand chahiye, Aaj kyon, Hum and Shehar mein, which are easy on the ear and even have you humming along the spunky, lilting arrangements. In the more mellow tracks like Musafir, Tujhe jaane and Shukriya, Xulfi’s terribly familiar sound acts as much as a hindrance as Ankur’s own vocals. However, the rock’ish Jannat is a great track, along with the strongly Latino-tinged Bekhabar and Jaanu, that use the genre impressively. Jannat is an appealing debut, but fails to grab attention mainly due to Xulfi’s now-way-too-familiar production style.
