Title song – Teen Patti (Hindi – Salim Sulaiman)
Very techno and very catchy. Salim’s vocals add to the charm – the hook, ‘Ikka basha rani’ is stuck on my head.
Dekho – Gunkali (Pakistani Pop – Kaavish)
The best of this album. I continue to have a problem with Jaffer Zaidi’s vocals, but have now warmed up significantly. Dekho’s tune helps in this regard – beautiful, mellow track.
Karle mujhse pyaar – Toh Baat Pakki (Hindi – Pritam)
Pritam can spring a surprise now and then. This one seems like a leftover from Life in a Metro, no doubt, but is a great listen!
Cham cham, Bombay Bombay, Haq se & Yun hua – Striker (Hindi – Shailendra Barve, Amit Trivedi, Yuvan Shankar Raja & Vishal Bharadwaj)
One of my favorite recent soundtracks – you see 4 tracks from one album and you can guess that, I’m sure! Even within these 4, I keep going back to Amit and Vishal’s tracks!
Hey ya & Uff teri ada – Karthik Calling Karthik (Hindi – Shankar Ehsaan Loy)
These 2 songs make this soundtrack – Hey ya is tremendously breezy and sing-along’ish while Uff teri ada’s rhythm and energy is maha addictive.
Short and sweet & Enduko enthaki – Kedi (Telugu – Sandeep Chowta)
Oh God – I cannot get over Short and sweet! This is usually the first song I play on my BlackBerry as I start traveling towards Bangalore airport for an early morning flight – and I always end up playing it thrice, in a row. Enduko, on the other hand is so Kailash Kher’ish that I wonder why Sandeep chose Master Saleem – but the song is loaded with an appealing sound and even Master Saleem’s voice starts sounding very apt!
Indre indre, Kanavena & title song – Mundhinam Paartheney (Tamil – Thaman S)
One of the best recent Tamil soundtracks. Thaman is in phenomenal form and does a super job, particularly in the title song.
Aaromale – Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (Tamil – A R Rahman)
A song that defies the otherwise standard of the soundtrack, even though that sentiment is being severely contested in the comments section! Rahman’s inventive choice of Alphonse, the hypnotic tune…classy and brilliant!
Yezhezhu thalamuraikkum & Idai vazhi – Goa (Tamil – Yuvan Shankar Raja)
The former has the vibrancy of Ilayaraja, 20 years younger. The latter has the charm of Rahman, but with Yuvan’s own unique perspective.
Noor-e-khuda – My Name Is Khan (Hindi – Shankar Ehsaan Loy)
A templatized, but lovely soundtrack. I’m yet to tire of this sound by the trio – may happen soon, but hasn’t happened with My Name Is Khan. Noor-e-khuda is usually on repeat mode.
Kuthiraikku theriyum – Asal (Tamil – Bharadwaj)
Absolute sizzler from Bharadwaj. Yes, the lyrics are mighty sleazy, but the tune and the tantalizing vocals by Surmukhi make it irresistible.
Dil to bachcha hai & Ibn-e-batuta – Ishqiya (Hindi – Vishal Bhardwaj)
What can one say anything more about the Vishal-Gulzar combo? God, they’re incredible. Hope they continue to produce such amazing music forever.
