Movie review: Luck By Chance (Zoya Akhtar)

With spirited underplaying (!) by Farhan and a heartfelt performance by Konkona, Luck By Chance is engaging cinema – near flawless, since clichés are treated in the films within the film. But, despite the well-worded monologue in the end that justifies Konkona’s existence in Mumbai, the tone of Zoya’s debut uniformly paints Mumbai and the film industry as vile, selfish and ruthless. This fact just gets hammered by all the assorted star cameos she manages – Anurag Kashyap taking the cake with his 2 minutes! Strangely ironic that Zoya chooses to bit…nah, mutilate the hand that feeds her entire family.
