Angaraka (Music review), Kannada – Arjun Janya

Arjun’s Rahman roots are pretty evident in Kannu kannalli, with ambient sounds picked from dozen older Rahman songs, into a neat package, sung by Deepak and Anuradha Bhat. The composer is in his elements singing the catchy Priyamani, in his trademark faux-nasal style. Aala alare and Jigi jigiyo manave barely make an impact with highly […]

Ba bare cheluve is trademark (by now) Arjun – instantly catchy and making best use of his gruff, otherwise-unappealing voice, while Supriya Lohith gives him fantastic company! Bell bottom too carries the same foot-tapping outlook and makes for a good listen! Nalli katte has Arjun playing with a folk’ish tune and he adds his own […]

Arjun assembles the most absorbing sounds in Preethi maado that works even for the simple masala tune. The composer rocks Node node, composing and singing the lilting faux-Hindustani tune with elan. But the composer’s voice hardly suits the Ganesh-puraana in Autoraja, even though he nails the tune rather well. Shame shame and Sachinu batting ge […]

Oh mahiyave extracts fantastic work from Sonu and Shreya, despite sounding a lot like a standard Harris Jeyaraj song. Yeno onthara is no different in its Harris sound, but quite a lovely listen, this, sung by Arjun himself! Kannali kannidu takes on a Rahman template, but the composer is in form with the overall sound, […]

Kanna minche is perfectly functional Arjun Janya melody material – captivating hooks and excellent backgrounds! Sonu’s solo version is equally good, as is the duet with Anuradha Bhat. Anuradha also delivers a competent pathos version too! Vijay Prakash drunk Khali quarter gets its rhythm bang-on, while Two one za two is annoying with its super […]

Arjun is in his elements in Baite baite, both in the cool, catchy tune and his own grungy vocals, ably supported by Anuradha Bhat. Yeno kane is the kind of melody that Kannada bestows upon Sonu Nigam, but here Vijay gets it and performs well; Arjun’s music too is punchier with the dash of guitar […]

Rambo (Music review), Kannada – Arjun Janya

Mane tanka baare is the quintessential Arjun song – auto-tune all across, incredibly catchy and simple tune, and a pitch perfect hook. The remix is the extreme opposite; besides wasting Baba Sehgal in heavy-duty auto-tuning, is a painful listen. Jaya jaya jackettu is high on kuthu, but barring funky sounds, doesn’t really work. The title […]

Belagedhu coffee is super fun; lyrics-wise and vocals too – by Ganesh, Sadhu Kokila, Arjun and Rangayana Raghu. Its twin, By-2 bedsheet is equally good with the female vocals spin. Arjun’s title song seems noisily bombastic, but he makes amends in Smilevasi, a wonderfully catchy track with pitch-perfect orchestration. Everybody rock cranks up the kuthu […]

Alemaari (Music review), Kannada – Arjun Janya

Maribeku is Karthik’s show all the way – Arjun’s tune and backgrounds are highly effective in letting the tune flow. Neeli neeli works up its tune slowly, with Javed Ali joining with his lilting portion – great listen! Nee modala sounds odd and showy, on the lines of mid-80s Telugu jungle songs, but with a […]

Lucky (Music review), Kannada – Arjun Janya

Hoovina santhege is very, very Pritam’ish – basic, functional rhythm and a slow, catchy tune – and is a good listen. Baba Sehgal’s Chennagidiyalle is strictly perfunctory with nothing standing out – the tune or the hook. Mandyadinda has an addictive folk touch to it, at least in parts; Ravi Bansare’s earthy voice helps significantly. […]
