D-Day (Music review), Hindi – Shankar Ehsaan Loy

Posted by Karthik

Mika leads Duma dum‘s umpteenth remake – largely familiar and tepid version. But Alvida is a complete opposite – awesome, brooding backgrounds and splendid vocals by Nikhil D’Souza, Sukhvinder, Loy and particularly Shruti Haasan! Murshid khele holi is wonderfully harmonious, with a distinctly non-qawal intrusion at places that adds zing to the song! Rekha Bharadwaj sounds her usual, stereotyped self in Ek ghadi, with the trio’s absorbing sounds clearly taking precedence, while, Dhuaan works for its profusion of voices, Oasis-style violin backdrop and impressive choral arrangement. The trio nail the sound as usual, even if the tunes work only intermittently.

Was expecting a #200 word tbh. Alvida and Dhuaan are terrific.

Yaariyan (Cocktail – KM & Shilpa Rao) and Alvida are so hauntingly similar. Still so different. ND and KM both have brooding voices may be that’s why.

Hmm, I’d urge you to give it another listen Karthik. On CD rips or iTunes/Amazon downloads. This online thing is terrible.

Trust me on this, the songs do grow on you. If it doesn’t, we’ll agree to disagree.

I quite like it, but yes, not all that much to gush over it 🙂

So you have given it a fair go then? Because I thought they were sort of OKish at first too – but it really grew on me. Can’t get Murshid Khele, Dhuaan and Alvida out of my head now 🙂

Fair enough I s’pose. Just saying.

the last 90 seconds of ek ghadi sounds very similar to phir le aya dil(barfi)
