Ek Thi Daayan (Music review), Hindi – Vishal Bharadwaj

Posted by Karthik

Yaaram is familiar, Vishal Bharadwaj’ish sprawling melody, but is eminently listenable with a scintillating turn in the middle after Gulzar invokes assorted stationery items! Clinton Cerejo rules over the evocative, haunting tune of Kaali kaali; Vishal’s use of violins in the interludes is particularly lovely! Totey ud gaye‘s tune, despite all that snazzy guitar, runs amok, but Rekha Bharadwaj delivers Lautungi main like only she can, with Vishal adorning it with splendidly ambient sounds. SRGMP Little Champs star Padmanabh Gaikwad sounds confident in Sapna re sapna, a velvety lullaby that gains enormously with Gulzar’s verses. Quintessential Vishal Bharadwaj-Gulzar soundtrack, this!
