Vishwaroopam (Music review), Tamil – Shankar Ehsaan Loy

Posted by Karthik

Suraj Jagan’s title song is magnificent, with an involving tune that subtly touches the Islamic prayer sound! Gino Banks’ drums and Rushad Mistry’s bass elegantly underline Thuppaki engal, as Kamal’s fantastic vocals and Vairamuthu’s intriguing lyrics eventually merges into a gorgeous Middle-Eastern twang. Kamal’s lyrics and prelude are fabulous in Unnai kaanadhu that blends into a captivating, Kathak’ish des-anga jaijaiwanti. Kamal’s lyrics and vocals are equally good in Anu vidhaitha, a sweepingly beautiful tune with stunning additional vocals by Alma Ferovich. Loy’s son, Shane ends the soundtrack with a stylish remix of the title song. Vishwaroopam’s sound is classy and exquisite!

  • I guess Kamal must be one of the (if not the) best actor-singers in our country!

100 words for a “classy and exquisite” album? Come on Kartik! Hopefully you’ll reconsider that 🙂

Classy OST by SEL – kinda had low expectation, but wow, great stuff! Unnai Kaanadhu is just fab.

  • Love this OST! But 100 words?! 🙁

I thought Shivamani did the percussion for Vishwaroopam?

And Kamal on vocals, *bows down*

My new favorite soundtrack after NEPV.

  • Nice review but the “Islamic” (sound) adjective is sticking out like a sore thumb. I know you need to be concise but, I felt, this one was strange. 🙂

    Very Average

What amazing music Raja Sir What divine music Raja Sir gave for Kamal sir. In the name catchy sounds we are giving up I think our roots. I personally wish to be wrong. Investments in cinema is huge these days and in order to recover the investments I guess the name of the trade is attraction – Attract with catchy music. Any day Sri Ranga Ranganathinin paatham is bliss… Oh God… what amazing sounds of veena, flute, thabala, violin, shenoy… – harmony of all instruments in that song. Pure music.. Splash of water is music

Thanks Karthik.. I felt this OST deserved a 200 worder…Truly a class album esp the title track n’ the lyrics had me guessing what all the film could be…S-E-L seem to be back in full form after some while for a commercial OST. Kudos to Vairamuthu for the stand-out lyrics n’ for Kamal who impressed as a singer (Anu vidhaitha) after so many years… 7.5/10
