Music review: Yen Ippadi Mayakinai (Tamil – Lakshman Ramalinga)

Doobu daba starts interestingly but gets into a rather silly medley mode and loses track completely. Nee yennai ninaithai is generously inspired by Harris Jeyaraj’s style and the debutant composer does a good job, with interesting add-ons in the guitar-loaded arrangements, while Shankar Mahadevan’s stage-rock Kanaakkalin is an experiment that works pretty well! Yennavo siathai is a gorgeous tune that gets time to sink in, but it does; that glitzy, expansive orchestration is reminiscent of Rahman. Dravida parise has an involving texture and showcases Lakshman’s imagination. The remaining 3 short tracks are plain dumb, however. Lakshman Ramalinga’s music sounds promising!
