Music review: Mayaandi Kudumbathaar (Tamil – Sabesh Murali)

With its typical yuppie folk sound, Kalavaaniye is strictly average, though the composing duo use pleasant, Vidyasagar’esque sounds in the interlude. Mudhal mudhalaai uses a similar template and just passes muster, while Seeman’s Pesama fans a revolution, uninspiringly. Prasanna’s woeful Poovidhazh makes the pleasant version of the same tune, Poongodi, sound awesome. Onnaa thaangave is non-descript – in its emotions and tune. The folk flavor is real and lively in Poothu siricha, while Vanthanamaiyya, despite the folk authenticity, is far too disparate and medley’ish for any impact. After stupendous work in Cheran’s Pokkisham, Sabesh Murali prove that they’re strictly director-driven.
